Dominica was the worst-affected island when hurricane Maria tore through the Caribbean on September 18. With vital telephone infrastructure and electricity destroyed, the population has been cut off from the world.
Flooding and strong winds have ravaged several habitations rending them unhabitatable and forcing several families to sleep in shelters and with host families.
Following the devastating effects of the hurricane, Dominica is now in a slow state of repair. IOM is on the ground providing affected communities with safe and dry shelters and by training local communities to rehabilitate damaged housing.
